We always thought this was the Law of the Universe:  every home plumbing repair will require three trips to Home Depot.

Turns out, I guess, that it is actually more of a suggestion.  Five trips and the toilet still leaks.

Maybe people who think that there isn't anything to see in the desert need to look a little harder.

"Look at that sad bit of hopefulness."
-my cousin Cameron, commenting on the 38 year gap since the last time Hobbs was the state champion

(He also said, "Right now, 'ambivalence' is my favorite word, but I don't know if that's a good idea."  Evidently some of this silliness is genetic.)

This is Round Two of my mad horticulture skills.

(Round One)

This plant is a member of the, uh, well, I believe it is a member of the plant family.  The spiky thing is spiky.  It grows well in the sun.  I think.

That is all.

One day - it was December 4, 2009 - I was in Muleshoe just behind a bit of a snowstorm.

It wasn't the first snowstorm that the Wallace Theater has ever seen.

This is the front of the Omni Parker House in downtown Boston.  It is the longest continuously operating luxury hotel in the country, but that's not why I took thie picture.

I took the picture because of the row of green awnings and that gold clock and the reflection on the stone at the corner of the building.

This'll be fun:  try staring at those white circles on the left until your eyes feel like they are popping out of your head.

How long did it take?

(Note to my eye doctor:  I really didn't stare at the circles.  I...uh...well, I just sort of glanced at them.  For about thirty seconds.  Or, no more than a minute or two, anyway.)
